Planning for a solo show perpetually involves the element of surprise. You’re surprised the works are actually finished. You’re surprised when uncertainties and details fall into place. And you’re even more surprised when new ideas hit you in the middle of concluding plans.

Invite to Say Lecture Series | Heather Day

As I moved through the motions of preparing for this show, an idea came to me about the purpose of this show—maybe even of all art exhibitions. For one centered so deeply on conversations, it made sense to open the floor to community conversations as well. I wanted the event to act as an idea-sharing hub for anyone and everyone, partly because at its core, art is about bringing people together. That’s what sparked the idea to have a lecture series during the exhibition, called Say.

Thanks to a partnership with Subaru, on October 10, 17 and 24 we will be holding lectures about working within the creative process. From music to painting, our speakers span multiple careers and genres, as do our topics. I’d love to see you there.
